After having two children, Abi and Ken's living room had become cluttered with toys and excess pieces of furniture, and 'lacked sophistication' according to Abi. We upgraded it to a modern space with room for adults as well as children.

They use the lounge for entertainment and relaxation, and desired a more welcoming, modern, clean yet children friendly feel. Their brief contained wishes for more storage, practical toy/play area and a general increased sophisticated impression. They further wanted to keep the sofas due to having dogs and children meaning wear and tear.

We decided for them to undergo a big clear out and an investment in new, more coheres storage, replacing some of the heavier wooden cabinets. With fewer items and furniture in the room, we created a better floor plan with the furniture entered around the fireplace, while creating a small play area with toy storage behind one of the sofas. As for the storage, we went for lower solutions, freeing up some wall space which creates less heavy feel in the room. Also, we made a contract wall around the fireplace in a beautiful blue hue, which increased sophistication. Better light, framing in the various areas in the room, a few new accessories including light, flexible sofa tables and better hiding of tv cables leaves the room much more modern, simple and welcoming atmosphere in the room.

Budget: £3,000 including everything.
